Here's what to expect at your first intro class at Gator Family Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The first thing you will see is smiling faces.
Our friendly staff will help you complete a short waiver and get you fitted for your free loaner uniform.
Starting anything new is always challenging. Not knowing what to do and feeling awkward can be a terrible feeling.
That's where our Coaches and assistant come in and guide you through.
Starting something new can also be rewarding and fun. Overcoming the initial "That's not for me!" thought is critical in the process.
Here's a thought to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to start something new "If you want something you've never had, you're going to have to do something
you've never done before.
Professor Robson Moura always says "If you want it bad enough you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse!"
Your only goal Your very first class should be to have fun. Don't try to remember the techniques or their names.
Classes start with a short warmup going at your own pace. Nobody to impress here. Just take it easy.
Patience and perseverance is key to learning new skills.
After a quick rehydration break we go into our technique of the day. This is where you will learn the details of a position or transition that the Instructor
demonstrates.
You will then get with another student and practice the technique. Our Instructors will work with you one on one to give you help and advice.
After another water break we end the class with live sparring or grappling. This is where you put into practice what you have learned.
Don't panic! Grappling is never mandatory. You may continue to practice the days technique if you like.
New students are not allowed to do submissions or have them attempted to you should you choose to grapple.
After class you will hang your loaner uniform up where it will be the next time you come in.
That's it! You've just completed your very first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class.
We're sure you'll have questions that your friendly teammates and Coaches will be happy to answer.
In Jiu-Jitsu I have found so many friends that not only support me in my journey but challenge me to be a better person on and off the mats.
My only regret is not finding and starting Jiu-Jitsu sooner.
Everything will seem strange lol! That's OK. Anything new always does. The academy you choose can make all the difference.Â
You should not expect to be "Thrown to the wolves." You should however expect an introduction that explains basic positions and movements. The basics are essential
for a solid foundation to build on.
A top notch academy like the Gator Family will have friendly Instructors and Teammates that will be happy to answer all of your questions and guide you along the
way.
Jiu-Jitsu does not get easier. You just get better. A great Academy can help you do that.
